HOUSE of Ruth
The HOUSE OF RUTH helps women, children, and families in greatest need and with minimal resources build safe, stable lives and achieve their highest potential. They enfold women and families in an environment that is safe, structured and predictable and where they receive highly responsive and caring attention from the staff. For over 40 years, House of Ruth has provided safe and stable housing to women, children and families in the DC area who have experienced homelessness and abuse.
Through the Working Order Records Benefit Concert Program, we launched a campaign for House of Ruth in 2017 that took the form of a four-band benefit concert at the nightclub The Black Cat in Washington, DC. We brought together four nationally recognized musical acts and exceeded our fundraising goal. Through all of our fundraising and advocacy efforts we were able to raise $1,050 for the House of Ruth's Kidspace Program.
Founded in 1990, Kidspace Child and Family Development Center is a nationally accredited child development center for children ages six weeks through five years old. The children are from families that are homeless and living at House of Ruth or other programs in the District of Columbia.
At Kidspace, children have individualized learning and care plans to help them achieve their highest potential. In bright, engaging classrooms, each child is taught by nurturing, well-trained teachers. The goals are to help the children develop skills and autonomy; to promote a life-long love of learning; to increase communication skills; and to promote positive development.
